Barite Mine & Paschelke RanchDecember 15, 1973After leaving Springfield at 9 a.m. we arrived at the mine around 10:15. A tour was made of the upper mine, now covered up, and a cave further up the hill. We then ventured into the lower mine and saw the beautiful crystals all over the walls. Most of the participants climbed the ladder and got a deeper look into the mine. As we all left the mine, Leo gave a demonstration of how complicated his mine lock-up is. He was on his back in order to lock it up. We then traveled to the “Paschelke Ranch” and saw all the Mexican geodes, agates, wood, crystals, lava bombs, etc., outside the house. On entering the house we saw big collection of gems, jewelry and pictures. A very enjoyable trip by all. On trip were Mary Bridgeman, Peter R. Cecil, Leo Pachelke, Jon Thonpson, Merle Traudt, Mark & Mike Zevenbergen. Dave Zevenbergen, leader. |
