April 15: Cho La Pass
table of contents previous next
On April 15 we awoke to another day of clear skies.
This was a big relief for us, because travel over the Cho La pass
is not possible in snowy or windy weather.
The trail to the pass worked its way up a gradual grade, then became a
scramble up a ledge to the toe of a small glacier.
We moved along the edge of the glacier and finally out on it to cross to the
low spot on the pass.
The day remained clear and calm, and we took our time and enjoyed the views.
At this point in our trip, we were all very fit and well acclimatized to the
altitude, so the 17,500-foot pass didn’t seem like all that much work.
