From Everest base, climbers get on a fixed line right at the edge of camp and
are on fixed lines literally all the way to the summit.
The different guided groups pool resources and agree on which parts each is responsible
for setting.
It’s hard to get a grasp on the immensity of the Khumbu icefall, even when you
are standing right below it.
It wasn’t until I saw some little dots moving in the icefall and got my binoculars
out that I got some idea of just how immense the crevasses are.
